ABOUT DEVI S. LASKAR

 

Devi S. Laskar is an award-winning writer and poet, and a visual artist, photographer, songwriter, and former newspaper reporter. Her debut novel, The Atlas of Reds and Blues, focused on the intersection of social racism, misogyny and police violence, and won several awards including the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. The novel was named by The Washington Post as one of 50 best books of 2019. Her second novel, Circa, a story about friendship and immigration, was selected as a GOOP Book Club pick. Her third novel, Midnight, At The War, a novel about truth and the news before and after 9/11, is forthcoming from Mariner Books in April 2026. Laskar has won awards for her poetry, and has published two poetry chapbooks; she has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and Best of the Net. Her debut poetry collection, Self-Portraits Ex Machina, is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press in November 2025. Laskar holds degrees from Columbia University, the University of Illinois and the University of North Carolina. She is a former journalist, covering crime and government and general news for newspapers in NC, GA, IL, FL, HI. Her essays have appeared in such publications as Electric Literature, Evergreen Review and USA TODAY. She is an alumna of both TheOpEdProject and VONA/Voices and is completing a spoken-word album, Inventions in D Minor, based on her poetry, scheduled for release by Someplace Called Brooklyn record label in Fall 2025.
